‘Tis the season to be jolly! Aren’t you excited that Christmas is right around the corner? It’s that time when you decorate your home, cook tasty dishes, and of course, visit family and friends. How about doing some amazing stuff with your kids?
Whether you stay indoors or visit scenic views and other attractions, there are many things you can do. Check out these cool activities.
1. Decorate Something
Making your own decorations for your home and Christmas tree is always an enjoyable craft idea for kids. They are enthusiastic because they can be very creative using their ideas, themes and color scheme. Some decorating crafts they can try include cards, ornaments, garlands and candles.
2. Showcase their Talent
Kids love to sing, dance and show off their talent. Have them plan a talent show and decide on types of performances, their target audience, theme and style of costuming. They can also invite family and friends to participate.
3. Bake Christmas Treats
Get your kids to bake and decorate their own cookies or simple treats. Decorate cookies in the shape of Santa Claus, Rudolph or Olaf with frosting, marshmallows, chocolate and peppermint sticks.
4. Create Christmas Gifts
Kids love to art and craft. Encourage your kids to make gifts that could be used around the home or their family and friends would appreciate. If potentially harmful materials are needed for the projects, make sure they have proper adult supervision.
5. Visit Local Sites
Take your kids on a drive through the town or countryside. They can see the beautiful displays of lit Christmas trees and nativity scenes. Or maybe they can enjoy caroling, theater or many other holiday events. A lot of events are free so take advantage of the opportunity.
6. Shop with your Kids
Most organizations offer discounts at this time of the year. Why not take the kids shopping? Let them help you choose Christmas gifts or redeem gift vouchers. Shopping after Christmas also offers you great discounts on trees, decorations and other paraphernalia, so you can benefit as well.
7. Become a Volunteer
You and your kids can volunteer in your community. Teach them about self-esteem and the values of being empathetic and compassionate. Let them see the importance of helping those who may not be in a position to help themselves. Kids’ shelters, nursing homes and the Salvation Army are good places to lend a hand.
8. Christmas Movie Night
There’s nothing like watching a traditional Christmas movie while cuddling up by the fireplace. Let your kids choose their favorite movie and decide on the treats. You can all spend time enjoying each other’s company and watching movies all night.
9. Visit Ice Skating Rings
A popular holiday attraction is ice skating. These can be enjoyed by kids whether indoors or outdoors. You and your kids can have loads of fun skating. Plus, you get to stretch those legs too! Some skating rings come with music too and are available especially for ice skating parties. So just strap on your blades and have some fun!
10. Go caroling
Celebrate the birth of Christ by taking your kids out caroling. Yuletide caroling can be done in your neighborhood where you can get your friends’ kids to join you. You all can sing popular Christmas carols as well as your local music. Kids will have fun just being outdoors.
Whatever activities you choose to do with your kids, make sure you have your kids full cooperation. Get them involved by allowing them to come up with ideas. Most of all, make sure you have fun this Christmas. Happy Holidays!
