Summertime is a wonderful time of the year. The weather outside is fantastic, the kids are out of school, and there are so many different fun and exciting activities that you can get involved in. It’s the time of baseball, laying out at the beach, and enjoying the sunshine.
Kids love it because they are finally at a school, and can enjoy sleeping in and hanging out with their friends. However, it doesn’t take very low before they are complaining about how bored they are and that they have nothing to do. This is what happens to every parent, as the children use up their fun activities within the first week of their vacation and then spend the remaining days complaining.
If this is the challenge that you are facing, then don’t despair. Here are a number of great Summer activities for kids to enjoy.
This will horrify some mothers, but the fact is that kids like to get dirty. Let them get outside when it is raining and jump in the mud, play in the water, and just get dirty. Take them to an area where they can get dirty all day. Remember, it all washes off.
Play in the Sprinkler
If rain is in happening, have your kids put on a swimsuit and jump out on the sprinkler in front of your yard. Kids love playing in the water, and there’s nothing better than allowing them to play in the yard while you’re getting stuff done in the house.
The fact of the matter is you don’t have to go away to camp out. Have your kids set a tent up in the backyard. You can bring out snacks, you can have a barbecue (simulating a campfire), and let them sleep under the stars. It’s a great way to go camping without having to go away to go camping.
Go to Local Events
The one problem that many people face is they don’t know all that goes on in their community. You might have NASCAR races, airshows, demolition derbies, or other kinds of events that would be fun to take your kids to. Maybe your church or local community center are doing activities. Find out what’s going on and take your kids to it.
During the school year is quite likely that you and your children didn’t have time to do fun things together. Now you can do so, so pull out a board game or a deck of cards and spend an evening just hanging out as a family. You’ll not only have a lot of laughs, but you learn how competitive your kids are.
One of the best places you can go to in the summer is the zoo. It doesn’t matter how old you are, even 80-year-old kids love the zoo. Go out there and see the exotic animals that are living there in your community.
Go to the Park or Beach
A great free place to go for fun is to the park or to the beach. Here your kids can play on the slides, get in the water, run around in the grass, or just do whatever. It’s a great place to go for free, and if you bring a lunch you can make an entire day of it.
Get in Shape
You don’t have to involve your kids in some kind of sporting activity or take them to the gym to help them stay in shape. A lot of kids get quite lethargic during the summer time, so go for a walk every day, play frisbee in the yard, or do something to ensure that your kids are staying active. This will help you to get in shape as well.
Learn about Your Community
There probably is some great history or culture in your community that would be a lot of fun to learn about. Go to a museum or other location like this to learn about what’s going on in your area. Take your kids to the local government center and let them sit in on a court trial or during a city council meeting. This will help them to know what’s going on in your community and provide them with a great lesson.
Have Family Movie Night
Besides having a game night, a great activity is to have a family movie night. Get a couple of movies, and let everyone be involved in making the decision of what to watch. Get some popcorn and soda, bring a bunch of pillows and blankets out into the living room, and watch your favorite movies together. It will be a great activity for everyone for sure.
The great thing about these activities is that it doesn’t cost you much money, if any money at all to do them. However, it will give you and your family a lifetime of great memories.
