August 19, 2017 By Emily

Regular exercise of various body parts is always essential for all of us. Especially, for children, it leads to mental and physical development. But, with the term- exercise, we do not want to say that you have to go to your gym club and use the complicated equipments. Riding a bike or a bicycle is also a good workout. If you want your children to ride a bike, you need to help them in learning the best techniques. And while your kids will be able to learn it, they may find the activity to be a fun.

The ideal time to start your bike riding tutorial is when your children have reached five to six years. However, at this age, if your kids feel discomfort in holding the bike, there is no need of forcing them. But, nowadays, many children show their intense passion in learning bike riding.

Before giving any instruction on the way of operating bike, you have to consider some important factors.

  • Choice of best bike design for kids – If the size of bike is too big for your children, then it may disturb them during the process of learning.
  • Compatibility of the model- You have to ensure that feet of your children have touched the right level on ground. If they do not find it comfortable, they may not be able to control their bike.
  • Place for teaching the kids– It’s better to choose such a site, where your child will have no disturbance of traffic. For safe riding, you may look for a smooth, flat place. A park or your backyard can be the better options to let your children in riding the bike with no hassle.

Adjustment of bikes

It helps your children in sitting in a straight manner. Ask them whether they are feeling comfortable with this pose. Another thing that you have to check is the inflammation of tires. Rightly inflated tires help in smooth rolling of the bike. Test the pressure on the sidewalls of tire.

Give the best backup to your kids

Your children may get tempted, while they get opportunity for holding handlebars and saddle. However, you have to be careful of the way in which the bike is getting leaned for the weight of rider. You may just calmly stand in a site, adjacent to your kids’ bike. Hold the back wheel of the bike between calves and feet. This helps your children in having an outstanding control over the cycle or bike.

Allow the freedom of running the bike without your help

Though you have to do it, you should also be prepared to grasp them, if anything wrong occurs. You may wait for this step, until the little riders achieve confidence on bike riding. Ask them to ride slowly so that you can run behind the cycle. Give direction on their right body posture. Your instructions will allow them to make out the response of the bike to their action. A novice rider has to learn about the time for cornering and turning the bike.

Set the bike in motion

Your children need to start their journey with their individual effort. So, you may instruct them for placing the feet on pedals, and hit them to begin their bike riding trip. While you see that they have learned the way of retaining the balance and pedaling the bike, they can try to ride it without your aid. The riders have to know the right way for keeping their feet on pedals. Within a few days, they can learn some more advanced skills of riding bike.

Teach your children to use brakes while biking

The brake systems may be of various types: one is the back-pedal coaster and another one is the handle lever. Your children have to know everything about these brakes. You can ask your children for strolling along the bike; then, they may haul brake in order to observe the situation. It is better to let their bike’s brake slowly, at first. Spend much time for teaching them about the right moments for stopping the bike. The riders must also be aware of the application of both rear and front brakes simultaneously.

Thus, you may help your kids to learn the safe bike riding process with the above steps. It’s not possible to become an expert rider within a short period. So, regular practice of bike riding is the best way to become a well-skilled rider. Moreover, the gears are also important to give convenience to the rider. The helmets, right footwear and well-fitted trousers are essential to every rider.
